Opening An Aircraft Repair Business? Your New Hangars Should Feature This Safety Equipment

Hi there, my name is Angela Baker. I've always been interested in all sorts of topics, one of them being manufacturing and how to make more with less. New manufacturing techniques are always being developed that allow for products to be created with the fewest resources possible. This is something that has always fascinated me and I have spent a lot of time researching these new techniques. But I always like to feel like I'm doing something constructive, so I decided to start writing blog posts based on the exciting things I have discovered about lean manufacturing and many other topics.

Before opening your aircraft repair business, it's important to make sure that your hangar is outfitted with important safety equipment. Without safety equipment in place, you're putting your employees and your clients' aircraft at risk. Following are a few pieces of aviation safety equipment you can't afford to overlooked when outfitting your hangar:

Anti-Slip Tool Mats

When you and your staff are working on an aircraft, you aren't going to want to keep putting tools back and getting new ones out every time you start a new task. Having anti-slip tool mats available will help optimize productivity levels by allowing your staff members to gather all the tools they'll need for a specific job and store them on an anti-slip mat. The mat can be moved into different positions while working for convenience, but the anti-slip technology will help ensure that the mat doesn't accidentally get pushed under a heavy part, or worse, an aircraft wheel.

Adjustable Part Shelves

Instead of storing your aircraft replacement parts in boxes or on standard shelving, consider using adjustable shelf systems. The shelves should be easy to adjust up and down without the need for tools so you and your staff members can easily find and retrieve with minimal danger. Adjustable shelves will also reduce the need for using ladders and and pulley ropes which should help reduce your overall liability risk as time goes on.

Anti-Theft Aircraft Locks

To ensure the safety and security of the aircraft you're repairing while they are in your care, it's a good idea to outfit each aircraft with anti-theft locks. Whenever an aircraft is not being moved or worked on, it can be secured with a lock that will keep staff members and would-be thieves from taking off with them outside of normal business hours. The anti-theft locks can be stored in a secure closet or trunk in the hangar when they aren't in use.

A Smart Surveillance System

Installing a smart surveillance system throughout your hangar before opening your doors for business will provide you with a number of benefits to take advantage of. First and foremost, you'll create a video and audio record of anything that goes on in the hangar which can come in handy if it gets broken into.

Your surveillance system will also allow you to keep tabs on your employees and make sure that they're following all the policies and procedures that you have put into place. And, you can keep an eye on your hangar even when you aren't there. Whether you're at home, out of town on business, or halfway around the world on vacation, you can tap into your smart surveillance system using a smartphone, tablet, or laptop.
